Request for ProposalNOBCCHhE is accepting proposals for candidates who will assist with the management of NOBCChE Membership. The work involved will include preparation and distribution of membership, notification of dues renewal, reclamation of past-due members and general membership communication with members. Dr. William LesterDr. William A. Lester, Jr. is Professor of the Graduate School, University of California, Berkeley He was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 24, 1937, the second of four children born to William A. Lester and Elizabeth Frances Clark. He attended the University of Chicago on a history scholarship, but majored in chemistry, earning a B.S. in 1958 and a M.S. in 1959. In 1957, he was chosen as the University of Chicago’s "Man of the Year.” He began his doctoral studies at Washington University, St. Louis, but moved after a year to Washington, DC to study quantum chemistry at The Catholic University of America.

Dr. Judson Haynes Dr. Judson Haynes III, grew up living all over the globe as a result of his fathers’ Naval Military career and considers himself a native of Daytona Beach, Florida and San Francisco, California. Dr. Haynes is a Senior Scientist at P&G in Cincinnati, Ohio and his work focuses on scientific visual communications for P&G's Global Beauty Care Business.Prior to joining P&G, Dr. Haynes obtained a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Hampton University (Advisor: Dr. I.T. Urasa) and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at Louisiana State University (Advisor: Dr. Isiah Warner). The focus of Dr. Haynes’ graduate dissertation was Pseudo-stationary Phase Development for Chiral and Achiral Separations.

Dr. Warren WashingtonFollowing the rousing opening luncheon at the 2011 NOBCChE National Meeting, Dr. Warren M. Washington, a renowned climate-change scientist who received a National Medal of Science from President Barack Obama in 2010 and who was one of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winners, gave the Henry A. Hill Lecture, entitled,  “Present and Future Climate Change: Grand Challenges for the Science, Engineering, and Society.”  The Henry A. Hill Lecture honors the first black president of the American Chemical Society, and was co-sponsored by the ACS Northeast Section and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Chemistry Department.

Dr. Angela WinsteadAngela Winstead, Ph.D., was recognized at the Houston Annual Conference as the 2011 Henry McBay Outstanding Teacher. The award was presented to her at the Awards Banquet by Dr. Gloria Thomas, Xavier University of New Orleans. Dr. Thomas was the 2010 recipient of this award.  Dr. Angela Winstead earned her B.S. from Spelman College in 1995 and received a Ph.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2000 with a concentration in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.  Dr. Winstead conducted postdoctoral work in the Chemistry Department at The Ohio State University before joining the faculty at Morgan State University in 2002.  She was born and raised in Staunton , VA.

Dr. Christine GrantNOBCChE's Second Annual Winifred Burks-Houck Professional Leadership Symposium was held Friday afternoon during the 38th Annual National Conference. The program began with 2011 WBHPLS session chair, Dr. Gloria Thomas, Department of Chemistry Xavier University of Louisiana, welcoming the capacity audience. NOBCChE president, Dr. Victor McCrary greeted the large crowd and reminded them of the increasing role women play in the organization. Ms. Ella Davis, NOBCChE Board member – at – large, provided a recounting of Winifred Burks-Houck’s career and NOBCChE accomplishments.
