ACS President-Elect Endorsement

On behalf of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE), I would like to go on record as endorsing Dr. Willie E. May, Director of Research and Special Initiatives at the University of Maryland, College Park for President-Elect of the American Chemical Society. Dr. May is a member of NOBCChE and is also the recipient of the NOBCChE’s Dr. Percy L. Julian Distinguished Award (1992).

Dr. Willie E. May just recently stepped down as the Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology. Prior to becoming the 15th NIST Director, he had served as Acting NIST Director and Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology. He is an accomplished technology executive, scientist, policy advocate, and mentor.

He brings excellent credentials to this position including high-level oversight and direction for the American Chemical Society. He is honest, reliable, and willing to work diligently as president-elect. I believe Dr. Willie May is the person best qualified to be president-elect of the American Chemical Society.
